Question
What Do You Think Of The Scent Bartlett Pear?
I recently ordered a new Wallflower starter kit and it has the Bartlett Pear fragrance in it. I have never smelled this scent and I was wondering what others think about it. Positive and negative feedback will both be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have to be honest - I really don't like it. That doesn't mean you won't, but to me, it doesn't smell like a pear. I've not had it in the wallflower, only the room spray, so don't be too worried - sometimes they smell different from product to product.

It's too sterile of a smell for me. I originally bought it for my bathroom, and I had to give it to a friend because I hated how it smelled so much. It's the perfect bathroom fragrance, though, if you like it. I just thought it was too sterile smelling and it reminded me of a public restroom.

Again, that doesn't mean you won't like it, and there are plenty of people who do, but there are a lot of other fragrances I would've went for first. But that's the beauty of having so many different options: everyone likes different things!

I just bought a pierced Holiday Glow oil warmer that uses tealight candles as a heat source. I have found it to be very effective and pretty! I think that is one of the most elegant ways to scent your home (the other one being candles themselves). I know I'll be buying a warmer for every season!

If you're a candle lover, I'd use a tealight powered oil warmer.

The oils have to go into a burner. There are two basic styles of burners: 1--electric (just plugs in to heat up the oil in it's little ceramic dish), or 2--traditional/non-electric. Those use tea light candles under the base to heat up the oil.

They both have their benefits. I just purchased the Slatkin electric one a couple days ago. I like not having to hassle with buying the tea lights (that have to be non-scented or its scent will interfere with the oils!). I like just plugging it in and flipping the switch rather than lighting a candle every time. From others feedback however, the traditional burners seem to heat the oil better, and it takes less of the oil to penetrate the room. (I'm already noticing that my oil doesn't get terribly warm, and it seems I have to use a lot more oil than what it says on the bottle to be able to smell it!) So both kinds have their pro's and con's...

All you need to do is pour a dime size amount in the top concave area of the burner. The bottle says 20 drops, but this is way too much. A dime size is perfect.

It is quite simple. You need to buy an oil warmer unit before you can do anything, and the choice is yours. My personal preference are those with the glass tops, as I feel they heat up better and the fragrance is diffused MUCH stronger than the ceramic or electric oil warmers.
After you have the oil warmer, you need to buy unscented tealights. The tealights are small, circular candles, and they will sit inside the base of the oil warmer, directly under the dish the oil will go. You then put 10-20 drops of the oil (depends on the fragrance: if it's a strong scent, less is more usually), light the tealight, and you are good to go. It will burn itself out after 4-6 hours or so, and begins diffusing the scent within seconds. Far stronger and superior to candles (and less messy)!

just place 5-10 drops of the oil into the glass bowl of the oil burner and then add a tealight candle. light and place bowl on top of oil warmer and enjoy! beware though, the oils are very fragrant, and work well in large rooms. also, most people think that the more oil you place in the bowl the more fragrance you get. that might be true with other brands, but i learned that BBW works with master perfumers and place perfume grade oils in their home fragranced items, so more is not necessary! the staff at the stores are very helpful and informative - you can always ask them too!

Like the previous reviewer, I too prefer the oil burners.

Wallflowers and Scentports just don't seem to last long. They start out great, but fizzle out way too soon, scent-wise. The liquid itself lasts a really long time, but you won't be able to smell it unless you're standing directly over it after the first week or so, depending on the particular frangrance. (Some perform a bit better than others.)

I like candles better than plug-ins...the scent lasts longer, but they still don't penetrate the entire room like the oils will. I just got my oil burner this week and will never go back to the plug ins!

Out of all of the home fragerance products, fragerance oils work the best. They are safer than candles, because they contain the fire in a small container. The wallflowers get a residue after awhile and only scent small rooms. Neither of them have an effect like an oil. The oils last longer than candles and wallflowers, so they help to save money too. Only put in a dime size amount rather than the suggested 20 drops, because they are too strong with so many drops. The other benefit with the oil is that it gives fragerance off immediately! If you don't want an oil, candles are better than wallflowers.

Candles will scent your room better, however I prefer the oil burners, which scent even better! With candles you will get that sooty residue on your walls. Wallflowers are only good for bedrooms and bathrooms. If you want a plug in for large rooms, try the scentports, but they typically dont last as long as wallflowers. Hope this helps!

As a former candle burner turned oil burner, I can answer your question honestly. You are free to choose the type of candle to use with your oil warmer, however it must be a circular tea light that is unscented. All of the oil warmers display this cautionary advisory. Secondly, the home fragrance oil recommends up to 20 drops of oil. If it is a really strong fragrance, I typically only use 10-12, as that is more than sufficient. If it is a more subtle scent or in a large room, I use 20 drops. Sometimes you can reuse the oil a few burns to help conserve oil, as well.
Oil warmers are, far and beyond, superior to candles. They are less messy, the tea light candles burn up to six hours, and they create a more sophisticated ambiance than candles do, and they are far less messy. I hope this helped!

To heat the oil, you put an UNSCENTED tealight candle on the bottom of the oil warmer. The candle heats the oil that you place on the top. Depending on how long you want to burn the oil, anywhere from 8 to 12 drops will suffice. I believe it is recommended not to use more than 12 drops, but I could be wrong. I LOVE my oil warmer and use it all the time. It works much better than candles at scenting your home!

I just bought one this past weekend. I had used the wallflowers in the past and loved them, but couldn't find a fragrance that I liked this time and was ready for something a little different. I bought the little silver oil warmer that looks a little like an ornament. It's really easy to use. Just put a tealight (metal encased, fragrance free) in the bottom of the warmer and add about 15 drops of the oil to the top. Light the candle and the scent is evident almost immediately. I was surprised at how quickly it filled my apartment. I heard that the stone ones don't heat up as quickly as the metal ones, and the part that holds the oil is thicker so it might not be as potent. I recommend them! Much more fragrant than the wall flowers. Just be sure not to leave the house with it burning. Also, the oil warmer can get hot so watch out for that as well.

The candles needed are tea lites. They are placed in the bottom of the warmer. Only a few drops of oil are needed. They produce a strong smell, as the candle heats the oil. These are what is typically going in the stores.

The Fall 2009 Preview/Fall Look Book had a date of October 12th for The Perfect Holiday items and November 2nd for The Perfect Christmas items. They usually release the Holiday Traditions (called The Perfect Holiday this year) body care items before The Perfect Christmas items, which included the Winter scent you love. They will have Spice and Tree but I'm not sure about the Winter, Cranberry, and Eggnog scents this year.

The Vanilla Bean Noel and Winter Candy Apple are coming back this year in the body care, along with two new scents, but they are now known as The Perfect Holiday items. In the past they've been called Temptations, Holiday Collection, etc. It does not show The Perfect Holiday scents in anything but a shower gel so it's anyone's guess as to whether they release these scents in the Home Fragrance items.

If you have a Bath & Body Works Outlet near you I would definitely check there for the Winter scented items. They often carry discontinued/older items but they also carry new items. The Outlets are a hit and miss kind of thing- one time you go in you will hit the jackpot and find everything you love and the next time you visit they won't have much of anything. I would advise calling ahead to see if they have the items before visiting to make sure that they do have them in stock :)

Good luck in your search this year and I hope they bring the Winter scent back as well- I loved it, too!!

Yes, this is a very common problem and I believe they are working on it due to all the complaints and returns they have received. Mine do not seem to last as long as I would have expected either. This also goes for the Scentports- they have a reputation of not lasting very long either. My refills are often empty after two to three weeks of use which is VERY aggravating considering their price! Keep looking in stores for new and/or improved products :)

Have you ever considered writing to Bath & Body Works to let the know how you feel? You should be able to do so by contacting Customer Service and writing an email. If they don't receive feedback from their customers, how else are they supposed to know that their items are not up to par in the customer's eyes :)

This has been a very, very common complaint about the Scentportables. They seem to go kaput especially bad in automobiles, working for maybe a day or two, then the scent is gone. Some believe this is particularly prone to happen in hot weather. It's super hot in Texas, so I don't know about cold weather use, yet.

I know I can't smell them at all in closets, bathrooms, etc. I returned mine, and many others have reported in these forums that they have too, due to their dissatisfaction.

Myself and many others agree that the Scentportable is a wonderful idea, it just needs to go back to the drawing board for some tweaking. It is not a satisfactory product for the market yet, an opinion I share with others. No suggestions for a fix. The product just doesn't have a good track record.

It depends on the fragrance you are using and the temperature of the vehicle. When my car sits in the sun it smells very fragrant but in winter my fragrances were not as strong. I always buy two of them at once to make it stronger. I have also noticed that the odor eliminating fragrances are stronger than the regular ones.

All the candles sold by BBW use lead-free wicks.

Although you probably know this, any wick can leave some soot behind if it is not trimmed properly and frequently. There are wick trimmers well-suited just for this purpose, but a pair of long scissors can do the job decently. Keep the wick trimmed to approximately 1/4 inch. Avoiding draft effect on the flame will also decrease the chance of soot deposit. Hope this helps.

I have 2 of the pierced pineapples and the small figural pineapples. The sales associate told me to burn the votive candles or small glass candles of the scents in my pineapples. I've been doing this for about 3 months and haven't had any problems at all. Just make sure to clean out any leftover candle before you put a new votive in the holder so it burns even and clean. The votives are $1.50 each and I just buy tons of them and burn them. I love my pineapples and I also have the pierced pumpkins, etc. No problems for me yet.

answer 4
There is no way to "replace" the candle once it has burned down. In fact, it is not a good idea to try to replace new candle in any previous housing for a candle (for example a glass jar). The reason: heat stress on the container from burning. Heat can cause tiny cracks, or fissures, to form in the walls of the structure. You likely wouldn't be able to see these stress lines, but trying to burn something else in the figurine could stress the structure to the point of cracking, making a mess or even being a seroius fire hazard.

One suggestion I have (and you can look up many other great uses for used candle containers on the web under craft pages) is to clean out all the old wax and loosen/remove the wick tab. Once done, you'll have a lovely pineapple figurine to store a little dry potpourri inside, or any sort of little items. There are countless possibilities! The only limit is your imagination! Craft pages can tell you great ideas how to remove last bits of wax and the wick tab, and ideas of how to use your beautiful figurine.

So while you can't make another candle out of it, there is no reason not to put your attractive pierced figural pineapple to other good uses. I hope you'll find something helpful in this answer.

I would recommend anything in their new line of Odor Eliminating/Reducing items. The one that would probably work best for the stinky soccer bags is their Fabric Refreshers in the scents of Clean Mist, Fresh Cotton, and Brilliant Citrus. I have used all three of them throughout my home and they all work wonders! The spray nozzles disperse a sizable amount of fragrance mist so you will likely use half as much as you would with another brand. Mine have lasted far longer than I expected them to :)

Clean Mist is somewhat like the Fresh Bamboo scent but it is much lighter and not as overpowering as Fresh Bamboo can be. I use this scent on our fabric shower curtain, bathroom towels, and the floor mats/carpet in my car.

Fresh Cotton is by far the cleanest, freshest, most "normal" scent in their Odor Neutralizing/Eliminating line. It reminds me of fresh laundry pulled right out of the dryer or from the clothesline on a bright, sunny day- by far my favorite of the three :) I use Fresh Cotton on my linens, towels, carpets/rugs, and clothing.

Brilliant Citrus has a lemony, crisp smell to it. I use it on all of our pet-related items: beds, linens, crates, carriers, etc. I often use this if one of our furbabies (as we like to call them) has an accident in the house. Once the spot has dried I will re-spray it with Fresh Cotton as I'm not a fan of having my carpet smell like lemon :)

You could try the Scentportables. Some people seem to have luck with them. However, if you look at the Scentporables, there is a thin film that holds back the fragrance oil and keeps it from leaking out. My only reservation would be if the bag contains something that might puncture that membrane, spilling oil all over the bag and equipment. That would be a mess. Perhaps there is some way you could protect it but not seal it up...

Then there is the larger issue of Scentportable effectiveness. I find they simply do not fragrance closets or cars at all, and do not recommend them for that purpose. But a small, enclosed sports bag (or backpack, for that matter) just might be the right environment for the Scentportable. If you don't think the membrane to the oil chamber will be punctured, I'd give it a chance. You can always return it if you don't like the scent or it doesn't work. It would be great to see this unique design actually work for something.

Question
How long before changing oil in warmer?
I may be wasting my oils. I dispense 10-15 drops into my ceramic warmer with one tea light, and when that tea light burns out, I replace the oil the next time. There is still plenty of oil left, but the potency is not as strong to me. (in fact, it changes scent and hardly smells if relit) Is there another recommended way of burning the oil? Should I be using it until it dries up, or using less per lighting?

Warmer oils contain more than just "fragrance" oils. The purest form of fragrance oils are "essential" oils. They are derived from plants and plant parts by several methods (distillation, cold-press, solvent-extraction); these methods are costly. Essential oils are also flammable and irritating to skin. To make them safe for use with warmers, they are combined with carrier oils (among other things) such as olive oil, almond oil, and grapeseed oil. So warmer oil (home fragrance oil) is not pure essential oil - if it were it would be an extreme fire hazard and too costly for people to use.

Therefore, when you are done warming home fragrance oil, there should be some oil left. The fragrancing oils are volatile, meaning they evaporate (that's how we smell them), but the other oils and substances do not, and that is what you find left behind in your oil warmer. If you re-warm this leftover material, it will be mostly lacking in the original fragrancing oils and this is why it won't smell as good, or it may smell bad actually.

So when you are done with a batch of home fragrance oil, and the oil and warmer have cooled, clean the oil and oil warmer surface and discard any old oil. It is OK if you think you only need 10-15 drops of fragrance oil per burn so long as the warmer does not run out of oil and nothing smells like it is burning. Some more experienced oil burners have told me that some fragrances burn faster than others, so through trial and error you may find you need anywhere between 10 and 25 drops of oil per burn (when using tealights - electric warmers are another matter but you still don't reuse old oil or mix old and new oil).

So it is OK to individualize the amount of home fragrance oil you use per burn (within reason of course). But there should always be some oil left and you should not reuse it. I hope that, despite being lengthy, this contained some helpful information for you and anyone else who might read this.

You are doing the right thing with your oils by dispensing the 10-15 drops. The best way to determine if you are using enough or not enough oil is each bottle will only be about 3 uses and if the oil is smoking when it is first lit you don 't have enough in the oil warmer. Also you should never reuse the oil or mix old oil with new will this will make it smell different. The oil will never burn through completely and you don' t want it to it will stain the glass or the ceramic oil burner. Clean after each use and start over each time that is best way to get the full effect of each oil.
