Try swapping one of your two units with your friend and see if your friend's scent works in your outlet. If so, your outlet is good and your Wallflower units are bad. Otherwise you may not have sufficient voltage in your outlets to drive the unit's heating element.

answer 2
I would argue that unless the units are old, it is not a problem with the Wallflower unit.

I have long thought that the voltage/wattage of an electrical outlet affect how the fragrance in the Wallflower and Scentport are diffused.

In my apartment, there are several outlets that, when I put a Scentport in it, will burn through it in 3 weeks. It gets so hot, that the oil in the unit turns a caramel brown color and begins to smell 'burnt'.

If you have the option, try using it in another outlet. If that doesn't work, maybe try getting a new unit and seeing if that works.

It will all depend on how long you have had the starters... They are mechanical and the fan inside WILL burn out after so long... if you just got the starters i would take them back, but if you have had them for a few months i suggest getting new starters

it might be the voltage in your office. Since she only has one and its strong it might be that or do you notice if the plug in is warm? If it is thats good, if not I'd return the unit, its probably broken.

Hmmm... That's a tricky one. Perhaps the outlets you are plugging your Wallflowers into don't supply enough volts to get the full effect. Or, maybe your particular units are defective.

I think a lot of times it all depends on the outlets. It could be that your friends office is in a newer building and has newer outlets than yours. You can always return your wallflowers if you are dissatisfied. All products come with a money back guarantee.

Take the starters back to any BBW store and they will exchange them for you. Most likely it is just a problem with the starters themselves.

It's quite different, and I actually prefer it to Warm Vanilla Sugar. Vanilla Bean Noel is a very simple fragrance. So often, we seek out the intricate fragrances, but there is something to be said about the mantra of 'less is best'.
The sandalwood essence in the Warm Vanilla Sugar isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the inclusion of caramel and sugar fragrances into Vanilla Bean Noel makes it sweeter and creamier by a large margin. If Warm Vanilla Sugar is a little 'dark' for you, you'd love Vanilla Bean Noel.
It is definitely worth checking out. Warm Vanilla Sugar is too quiet and not strong enough for me, personally, so I really enjoy the Vanilla Bean Noel.

Vanilla Bean Noel is a more intense/heavy smell and has a strong frosting/sweet scent to it with a hint of caramel as opposed to warm vanilla sugar. Warm vanilla sugar is much more of a light "vanilla extract" type of smell.

As a previous poster suggested, either the Cotton Blossom or Sea Island Cotton are very fresh and light. You might also try the White Citrus which is a new scent. I have it in our guest bedroom and it is crisp but subtle- very clean/refreshing!

The Fresh Linen is good but I've found it to be WAY too strong for my taste in the Wallflowers or Scentports. It is not so bad as a candle but I am assuming you are looking for a constant scent that is automatic by a Wallflower or Scentport, not one that you have to burn to use :)

I would definitely go with a Wallflower in your guest bedroom for a couple of reasons. Wallflowers often disperse the scents more lightly than a Scentport and they have a reputation for lasting longer, on average 4-6 weeks. The Scentports are much stronger and they do not last as long as the Wallflowers, often 2-3 weeks. Reed Diffusers are often very strong as well but fade over time as the oil evaporates. You also run the risk of having an open bottle of oil that could be knocked over or spilled, which is never good :)

Good luck in your search and as someone previously said, if you do not like the item(s) you purchased simply return it to the - even if you have tried it/used it- and they will help you find something else that you should like!

Coconut Lime Vervbenia, I dont mean to go against the grain, but it is a lighter frag then Fresh Linen. It still has that clean feeling with a slight zing of the Lime. Great for gust bedrooms!

If you dont like the frag, all of our stuff is 100% just bring it back to a store near you, and we will gladlly find something more suited for you!

I agree with the previous responder who said "fresh linen." That would have been my # 1 recommendation for lightest scent, although I really can't detect it at all. I think you might want to add something else to the guestroom to augment the scent, while not overpowering it. For instance, using a reed diffuser, placing some candles in the room that release some fragrance even when unlit, or even leaving out some dried potpourri.

One other fragrance that has been on the mild side in my opinion has been Creamy Nutmeg. It is not overpowering at all, especially if you are planning to use only one Wallflower diffuser. Anyway, that has been my experience. I'm sure there are some other mild/faint scents out there. I enjoy strong scents, so I actually try to avoid the milder ones. Creamy Nutmeg was a surprise, and I already knew about Fresh Linen being soft from the store. Hope this helps. Perhaps other responders will continue to offer good suggestions for you.

Another trick I have found that helps to open the wallflower bulbs, is to bend the cap/wick a few times & that pops the seal so you can get it off! Try it, because it really seems to help the customers that try it in line.

when you open them instead of twisting the cap to the left you need to twist it to the right the caps are put on that way so its not your typical righty tighty lefty loosey, however trying to twist it of with plyers will over tighten it in the wrong direction so you may have a hard time getting the cap off the ones you have tightened with plyers. Hope that helps.

Could you be turning them the wrong way? Usually you would follow the lefty loosey, righty tighty rule, but with the BBW bulbs it's the oppisite. If you look very closely, there is lettering on the top of the cap with arrows.

Even then, I usually use pliars.

The tops of Scentport bottles are threaded clockwise instead of counter-clockwise. Whereas normally you would twist a jar or bottle cap counter-clockwise to open, these are just the opposite. You may still need to use pliers since the caps are sealed very tightly for shipping.

I don't think they smell similar. I've adored Tree since it first came out ... truly smells like Christmas & last year I had the scent portables in my car & got compliments on it too.

I dislike Evergreen, maybe it is the smoke + minty smell others have mentioned, but it just doesn't smell like a fresh cut tree to me.

When Evergreen first came out, I gobbled it up. I loved it. But after a month (less for my dreaded Scentports) or so, I was sick of it. There is a sweet hint of mint in the Evergreen scent that ended up turning me off.

I went back to the store and purchased Tree the next time and I haven't looked back. Tree truly does smell like a fresh cut Christmas tree. I feel it smells more natural.

Question
do the holiday wallflowers starter kits come with a scent in them?

Lots of misunderstandings going around here.

The Holiday Wallflowers, such as the penguin, Santa, snowman, and snowflake, do NOT come with a fragrance bulb. You will have to buy the figural Wallflower unit and a refill set separately.

There ARE holiday fragrances in the Wallflower, but only a few come in a starter set - Evergreen being the only one I can think of off the top of my head with a starter set. You can buy the Holiday Tradition scents (Twisted Peppermint, Vanilla Bean Noel, etc.) as refills, but not starters.

So...here's the deal. Figural Wallflowers for the Holidays do not come with a scent bulb. There are refills for the holiday scents, but Evergreen is one of the only ones with a starter kit, and it's not a figural one. It's a normal one.

Actually I can answer this question from experience. I live in the dorms, we have Wallflower plug in for the bathroom that we share with other people. I have the room spray that me and my roommate use. we have a variety of it so we can change scents to fit whatever mood we are in. Also in the closet & car, I have the scentportable. Both are fun and cheap to replace. As for the wallflowers, there's always sales. Especially the semi-annual one in Jan.

The new "Scentbug" is awesome it fragrances a small area such as a dorm room with a fan. You use any fragrance oil and put a couple of drops on the pad then turn it on whenever you want the fragrance. Its battery operated and cant spill so its perfect in any space. Plus the oils are not very expensive so she can have several different fragrances to fit different moods.

answer 3
I'd recommend the Wallflowers, too. You are less likely to get an overwhelming scent from a subtle Wallflower than from a Scentport. Just make sure your daughter and her roomie find something they can both live with. The nice thing about Wallflowers is that the fragrance bulbs last longer than Scentports (my Wallflowers last ~4-6 wks and Scentports last ~3-4 wks in my experience). Be on the look out for great sales from time to time. There are so many great scents to choose from.

An electric oil warmer is a nice idea but I'm not sure if dorms allow it even though it is plugged in and not using a flame. It heats oil and the dorms may have issues with that. I know that in my dorm, my roommate and I had things stacked in all sorts of ways, creating amazing feats of engineering and inevitably gravity would bring some things crashing down. Unless your daughter and her roomie are very neat, I'd skip the open oil warmer. Reed diffusers are a nice way to provide small localized areas of scent, such as around her desk area, etc. Also, the concentrated room sprays are great for boosting the fragrance or to freshen up if friends are coming over.

One thing to remember with any fragrance diffuser...our noses become accustomed to the scent and we feel like the diffuser isn't working anymore. It is, but our brain isn't "working" anymore at recognizing the scent. So have your daughter keep a few of the fragrance bulb caps if she ever wants to swap out scents in the Wallflower. Also, as seasons change, she may want to change to another scent. If the current bulb is only partly used, just cap it tightly until it is used again. A piece of tape could be put on it labeling what scent it is, or if you can write small you can write a little abbreviation on the cap.

Just a few thoughts...hope this helps.

I would recommend Wallflowers because dorms are fairly small. They release a milder amount of fragrance that is subtle yet noticeable. Scentports are generally meant for larger rooms and put off a much stronger fragrance. Of course, If your daughter (and her roommate) wants to really be able to notice the scent, I would try Scentports. Both are great products!

You are probably doing nothing wrong. They are a little uneven in their function. I regularly use one in my car and some days I can smell it, some days I can't. It depends on level of air flow, temperature, etc. Also, after 6 weeks you'll want to replace it with another one. That is typically the length of their lifespan. I would personally suggest a stronger scent, such as Coconut Lime Verbena or something in the Cinnamon/Cider family. Those tend to leave a better impression.
