Jasmine Vanilla. I like the deep, musky scent of jasmine vanilla. Black currant vanilla is nice, too, but it's more of a light, fruity scent. Just depends on what you like. I think for summer, most would prefer the lighter black currant vanilla and for cooler days, the "warmer" scent of jasmine vanilla.

I have eczema so I have to be careful on products. So I always test at the sink or they can give you a sample to try at home. I recommend body cream - they are more thicker in consitency and will take time to absorb so your body will stay soft throughout the day. I love the lay it on thick body cream with shea. It really WORKS. Even my mom tried it on her sunburn/heat rash when we were in Mexico and she was amazed that it reduced and made skin softer. I recommend body scrub so it removes the dry skin. Theres so many different ones out there depending on what scents you like. I lean towards the True Blue Spa and Ahava line. Also for the hands, the just a minute hand scrub is amazing! test it at ur local BBW. My friend gave me the set of true blue spa foot care products. I recommend the overnight one with socks so it will feel nice and soft in the morning and all week. A little goes a long way.

The CO bigelow line has a product named Derma Remedy(White squeeze bottle with red on top) . This product comes in a body lotion, body wash, and hand cream. Strongly recommend for constant dry skin and focuses on keeping dry rough skin moisturized.

First of all, your body will benefit the most from lotions and creams if you exfoliate away rough, dead skin regularly. This is easily accomplished using a good body scrub (or sometimes a body polish will suffice) 2 to 3 times per week. If you don't want to use a scrub, the next best thing is to use a bath mesh sponge (and a long-handled shower brush for hard to reach areas) with a good shower gel. The most moisturizing are the BBW Signature moisturizing body washes. They are great! You could actually use your mesh sponge in the bath with this creamy wash, too, if you aren't taking a shower.

Now, with your skin prepared to accept hydration, I would apply something like the BBW Signature body cream all over. The body cream is thicker and better than regular body lotion for dry skin. Another great product (and a little thicker/heavier) is BBW's True Blue Spa body cream Lay It On Thick. It is a fantastic moisturizer (the shower cream, with the same name, is wonderful too). You want to be sure to apply whatever you end up using while your skin is still damp.

After your shower, and maybe another time during the day (perhaps at bedtime), apply BBW Signature body butter to problem areas. It is really thick (think spreadable butter consistency) and loaded with shea butter, a marvelous moisturizer. I have very dry skin, and from time to time, I'll apply body butter all over at bedtime to wake up with baby soft skin. It is too greasy to apply all over during the day, but it would be OK to apply to rough spots like elbows and knees during the day.

For feet, there are several great products. If you have any callused areas, you will need a quality foot file. BBW sells one (it is blue acrylic) and though it is a little pricey, it is the best one I've found and I've been through many. Soak your feet, then file away those calluses of dead skin. Likely you will need to repeat this over several days to weeks, then adopt a maintenance program. For really dry feet with calluses, I'd recommend the True Blue Spa (TBS) Heel of Approval foot cream. It is very moisturizing, and has glycolic acid in it to slowly break down callus. If you have dry, achey feet but not really any problems with calluses, I'd recommend TBS Shea It Isn't So. It has lots of shea butter to moisturize, and also some peppermint to soothe tired, sore feet. It feels great-I use it every night for my dry feet. My hubby has calluses so he needs to use the foot file and Heel of Approval foot cream (so yes these products do really work).

For hands, I have had problems there, too, because I wash my hands very frequently at my job. There are two great hand creams by TBS. Glove Me Tender, which my hubby uses, and Look Ma New Hands, which I use. The thing about Look Ma cream is that it has some paraffin wax in it so not all the cream comes off when you wash your hands. Another fantastic hand cream is the Signature line hand cream. It has shea butter, and you can pick your favorite Signature scent or scents.

OK, that's a lot of information. But I hope this was useful. I didn't go into specifics about what scrub to pick because that is a whole topic in and of itself. There are sugar-in-oil scrubs, salt scrubs, and scrubs that use another type of particle to exfoliate. There is no "best" type, it really is just a matter of personal preference and finding one that can get the job done for you.

I can't promise they will work for you, but I've have found the products to be extremely helpful for myself. I'm somebody who frequently has trouble falling asleep, and can be completely wired at 3 or 4AM. The first time that I used the body wash and lotion, I was blown away -- I was yawning within minutes of getting out of the shower, and I'm not somebody who yawns. I thought it was a fluke when I fell asleep, or that a 2 week stretch of 3-4 hours of shut-eye each night (and let me tell you, I WAS taking over the counter sleeping meds during that 2 weeks!) had finally taken its toll, but was thrilled to find I had similar results the next time that I used the products. I can fall asleep, no probs, within 60-90 mins of using them [probably quicker, but I've got to wait for my hair to dry]

I really like the body wash -- it's great in the shower or as a bubble bath, lathers really well, and little does go a long way. The lotion also helps. I like the massage oil and dream bath as well, but haven't used the shampoo or conditioner.I tried the Sleep home fragrance oil before the body products and wasn't terribly impressed, but your mileage may vary.

Good luck! I hope they work for you, or you find something that does. I know how hard it is to not be able to sleep easily, and wouldn't wish it upon anybody else!

I use the Black Chamomile sleep products almost every night before bed, and they really help to calm me into a sleep-ready state. I usually take a shower with the body wash, and follow up with the body lotion and the pillow mist on my sheets. Although sometimes I will take a bath in it. All of the products are great. And Black Chamomile has charcoal in it so it will detoxify. It may not be a cure for severe insomnia, but it's a great product to help you into sleep.

I believe aromatherapy has its benefits. How effective it is depends on the person. The more you are of the mindset of accepting it, the more benefit you will derive from it.

With regards to the Sleep line of products specifically, they can help. But I believe you need to be sleepy to some degree already for these products to work. If you've got a caffeine buzz going, aromatherapy isn't going to cut it. But is you are tired, but something is nagging you, a little nudge from the great sleep products may be just what you need to drift off into dreamland. Even if you are not really ready for sleep, these products can still offer some sense of calm and relaxation, which is stll great in my opinion.

As far as individual products, I enjoy the Lavender Vanilla scent and also the unique Black Chamomile scent (although it is not a scent everyone likes, but certainly a more gender-neutral scent). Over the holiday season my fave was Warm Milk and Honey.

The scrubs I use mostly for my hands, and follow with the lotion on my arms. I apply pillow mist to my bed linens, and use the concentrated room spray. Sometimes I'll burn some home fragrance oil, but usually I reserve this for when I start out not that sleepy (the oil is a bit pricey, so why start it up if I'll be asleep in 10 or 15 minutes). I don't use the sleep instant aromatherapy, but many people do. Unfortunately, as of this time, Black Chamomile does not come in a room spray or home fragrance oil, but I hope maybe it will some day soon. I don't wash my hair at night so aromatherapy hair care isn't a factor for me.

The great thing about aromatherapy is there are several fragrances within the Sleep line to choose from. If you find mint to be relaxing enough to induce sleepiness, the Stress Relief line has great products too. So you can tailor your bedtime routine with the products that work best for you. Experiment. If something doesn't work well for you, BBW has an excellent return policy. You can't go wrong.

Like I said before, the more accepting of aromatherapy you are, the more benefit you will derive from it. Hope this helps some.

In the sleep collection what I've found to be easier is sticking to your usual routine. If you shower at night or take bubble baths then I recommend those and combine with the lotion for moisture. Then to top it all off and get the full effect I think you will enjoy the pillow mist or plug-in because then its a constant soothing fragrance to coax you to sleep.

FitFlops are designed with the European foot in mind. That means, the shoes are a little larger and wider (to accomodate a higher instep) than American shoes.

That said, whether you size up or down depends on your instep and the width of your foot. If your foot runs wide and your instep is high, order up. If you have a small instep or a more narrow foot, order down. Most Americans will end up needing the nearest whole size down. The FitFlop website has great info about sizing, including a printable "footprint" one can use for sizing purposes. I would take advantage of it before selecting my size for puchase from BBW.

I can answer this specific question. I generally wear a size 8 1/2 (on some occasions, a 9) and I just bought the fitflops in a size 8. They fit me perfectly. BUT I will say that I have a rather narrow foot with collapsed arches (my ankles turn in because I don't have much of an arch.) Because of this condition, I found that the straps are definitely NOT too tight for me like other people have stated. I have more than enough room all the way around the sandal and the width is great.

I am also wandering the same thing. I wear a 9 1/2, but it doesn't mean anything. The only thing I can find about the shoe is that it is "roomy" and to order a size down.

Unfortunately, for me, sometimes when I downsize it can be a grave mistake. I would love to get these shoes to see if they really help with my back.

If anyone else out there can answer farfallina's initial question - it would help tremendously!!

The Black Amethyst starts off as a very flirty, bright, sweet scent, and as the night goes on (or day), it turns into this sexy, seductress type of scent. It is more of a womanly, romantic scent; whereas, the black chamomile is the exact opposite. It starts and ends off as a deep, woodsy, manly fragrance that is very soothing and comforting. Reminds you of being swooped into the arms of your dream guy.....

Question
To all you experienced oil burners.
I received as a gift an oil burner (not from BBW), and the directions say to mix water with the oil before you burn it. What are your thoughts on that? I have been mixing the oil with water, and I think it turns out pretty good, but do BBW oil burners recommend mixing oil with water? Does it burn the oil and give it a stinky oil smell if you don't mix with water? Is the fragrance of the oil diminished if you mix it with water?

Thanks for any hints!

BBW doesn't suggest mixing water with the oil. I wouldn't, you need just 20 drops of oil and only let it burn until the tea light goes out. Using less than that or burning it longer will cause it to burn. Never use a scented tea light either.

I have been using oil burners for a couple of years now and I have never put water in with the oil and I have never had a problem. It may be a personal preference, or it may depend on what type of burner you have, but I have used glass, metal, and ceramic burners with my oils and never had an issue. Hope this may help! :)

It isn't recommended that you mix the oil with water for 2 reasons: #1 it does dillute the oil and can alter or lessen the fragrance and #2 by adding water it evaporates the mix much quicker and the oil holder can become hotter than suggested. Although BBW doesn't recommend to add the water it is a personal preferance so do what you like best.

After a BBW soap stone oil warmer cracked on me from over heating, and a ceramic one left dried crusty burnt oil on top, I invested in an electric one!

To prevent it from burning, I mix mine with oil and it works out PERFECTLY! Makes my oil last a lot longer too! Before I went through a bottle every other day. Now I can go a week! Plus I keep the burner in my room, and by adding water, it dilutes it just a bit, but it's still strong enough to scent the entire room!

Question
DO THE SHEA SOCKS REALLY WORK ?
asked 9 months ago

I believe the Shea Socks are more moisturizing than wearing regular cotton socks alone (those tend to dry my feet out). I enjoy wearing my Shea Socks when my feet are a little chilled.

But to reap the most benefit from your Shea Socks, I would apply some of True Blue Spa's terrific foot cream (any of them will do, just depends on your needs). Because the Shea Socks are pre-infused with shea butter, you don't have to worry about them absorbing all of your foot cream, stealing that precious moisture away from your feet.

I think Shea Socks are a fantastic idea. I have several pair. I especially look forward to wearing them much, much more when it turns cooler again (and my feet become more troublesome in the wintertime). But the socks are still not too heavy to wear sometimes right now! I wear them in the evenings with either Shea It Isn't So or Heel of Approval foot cream. Very soothing!

Whoever said Gardenia really nailed it. That is what Tiare Flower smells the most like, although I am not here to disagree with other posters' opinions. Scents smell differently on different people owing to body chemistry. That's why you may like the way something smells in the store in a bottle or tube or tub, etc., but when you get in home and wear it, you no longer like it. Thank goodness for BBW. They understand this, and will take it back pure and simple!

I love Cocunut Vanille myself, but being from the South I do love the smell of Gardenia so I do find Tiare flower pleasing but it just doesn't rest well on my body : (. I do love the scrub in Tiare flower. Don't have to worry about those fine sand grains dissolving, like you do with many sugar-based scrubs.

Question
What aromatherapy is recommended for claustrophobia in an MRI machine?
asked 10 months ago
by
GramB
on Spa & Aromatherapy
4 answers
Answers
answer 1
Don't know if you are still checking posts. Whomever this concerned has probably had their MR scan already, but here it goes.

I am a healthcare professional, and unfortunately, I have also had many turns at being a patient also. That said, I've logged many an hour inside the tiny hollow core of the magnet, or MR machine. It is a tight fit even for a petite person such a myself.

Nothing can cure claustrophobia. A close relative is a radiologist. He has seen people pre-medicated by their physicians who ordered the MR scans. I am skeptical that a true full-blown claustrophobic individual is going to get by on Aromatherapy alone.

However, I do believe that Aromatherapy has its place. It all has to do with the mindset of the person receiving it, and their baseline level of anxiety. If a person only has difficulty with the MR machine, but not in an elevator for example, then one of the calming Lavender scents might do the trick. Body lotion before arriving at the imaging center, plus some Instant Aromatherapy right before the scan.

But if the person has anti-anxiety meds they take for exacerbating circumstances, they should keep with their prescribed medical regimen, and use the Aromatherapy to augment their relaxation. Lavender Vanilla or Lavender Chamomile are great choices. I also like Instant Comfort.

Hope this helps. It is never fun being a patient. MR machines are tight-fitting, cramped, and noisy (they give you earplugs but you still hear the loud clunks and buzzes that are part of the MR mechanism). But if you have never been in one, keep in mind that the tech keeps in touch with you the whole time. If there is a problem, even like if you have to itch your nose, you tell them and they can pause the scan. But otherwise lay perfectly still, as hard as it may be. That way, the images will be their best, your doctors will have the best info for you, and you stand the best chance of not having to repeat the experience again secondary to poor images (generally caused by patient movement artifact).
