I believe you have to be at least sleepy for it to work. If you are wide awake, or just drank several caffeinated beverages, the Instant Aromatherapy won't work miracles for you. But if you are close to sleep but somethinig is bugging you, and all you need is a little nudge, something in the Instant Aromatherapy line like Sound Sleep may just be all you need to drift off to dreamland. Even if you are still wide awake, you can reap some benefits like stress relief and relaxation, which can ultimately lead to your ability to fall asleep.
Instant Aromatherapy can work wonders for many people. Some of it depends on your willingness to accept its benefits. But keep realistic expectations in mind. It is not an "on-off" switch for sleep, etc., at least probably not for most of us without a pre-existing susceptible state (i.e. sleepiness).

A friend of mine started using it and swore by it. After hearing from her multiple times how much she loved the stuff I figured what did I have to lose. I bought one of the pillow mists in the travel size and gave it a try. I LOVE IT!! I then went on to buy the big size of the pillow mist along with the dream bath and body lotion to use at night to help me go to sleep. I really think it helps relax your mind and body not to mention it keeps your sheets smelling fresh. My husband even asks me to spray his side of the bed with the pillow mist to help him sleep!

Not in my experience. Lavender (for example) may be a calming scent, but it's not going to make you sleepy if you weren't already.
