answer 1
Japanese Cherry Blossom, my favorite! It is warm and rich but not too over-powering. Smells expensive too. It is not flowery or fruity, and I get tired of those kinds of scents personally.
Sensual Amber is another good one for winter. A friend of mine has the hand lotion and I like it very much.

I would have to agree on the Japanese Cherry Blossom and the Velvet Tuberose -- I've actually been saving the latter until it got cold. Another good scent to revel in is Jasmine Vanilla; from the Aroma Therapy collection.

I recommend Velvet Tuberose as a "winter" fragrance. To me Velvet tuberose is a fragrance that reminds me of Christmas and and getting ready for snowy days. If this fragrance is too strong then I would go with something lighter like MIdnight Pomegranate or Sensual Amber.

As others have mentioned, Velvet Tuberose is great for winter. It's got a deep, seductive musk to it, but has other notes that make it sweet. It is definitely unique, but not everyone's cup of tea. I would also recommend the #1 seller, Japanese Cherry Blossom. If you like something a bit sweeter, I would try Sensual Amber, as well. The Sensual Amber tends to be more of a fall fragrance, at least for me, but is a good year round product as well. The new Black Amethyst is quite warm and nice, too.
If heavy and dark isn't your pleasure, I would certainly recommend Winter Candy Apple or Vanilla Bean Noel (especially this one). The Vanilla Bean Noel takes a classic vanilla fragrance, and mixes it into a fragrance that is warm, sweet, and smells absolutely wonderful on just about anybody.

Black Amethyst in the Signature Collection.
Shea Cashmere in the True Blue Spa line.
Both amazing fragrances and perfect for the winter time. And since it's winter stuff your asking for, in the signature collection they have a 'oil to cream' body wash. The cool thing is that it's warming!
Also since it's winter time, I would get the hand cream, for shea cashmere (or body cream for any sig. collection product) becasue your hadns tend to be drier.

For winter time I would recommend the exotic line because they are more warmer so they are nice for the winter. The exotic line is Warm Vanilla Sugar, Japanese Cherry Blossom (which is one of the number 1 fragrance), Black Amethyst (the newest scent and one of the #1 fragrance), and Sensual Amber.

Question
Is this year twisted peppermint the same scent from last year?
I really liked last years twisted peppermint, it is the one scent husband, both kids (boys) and I can all use. Since the product line from last year has changed, I am wondering if the scent has also changed from last years or is the same? Long live the three-in-one body wash from twisted peppermint!!!

Absolutely!! The fragarance is the same as last years, although last year it was a member of the Temptations line,(which was discontinued), but the Twisted Peppermint was so popular that it was brought back as member of the Holiday LIne which means that it will be back every year along with the Vanilla Bean and the Candy Apple!! Yeah!!!!

The scent is still the same, it's just a different product line. The bad news for the boys though is that the shower gel has glitter in it. I have some and the glitter washes right off, but there's something mentally about it that keeps my husband from using it. He sticks to the mint aromatherapies. I'm really sad though because there is no home fragrance this year in the peppermint and that was my all time favorite.

Luckily I stocked up on the 3 in 1 from last year, but my boys and husband use this years lotion! I am thinking it must be the same as last year. I am just happy they all like and use it! Mom likes the smelling peppermint much better than sweaty boys! any day.

I actually tested a little bit of it at the store, and it is basically the same scent. I think they may have changed it a little, but it's still yummy and pepperminty.
Sadly, it is no longer a 3-in-1 (shampoo, body wash, etc). This year, it is just a shower gel, and it is shimmery, which means it's got glitter and stuff in it. Not really a thing for the whole family this time around, which I find disappointing.
I hope that helps.

It's actually the same scent, but since BBW doesn't carry Temptations anymore, the Twisted Peppermint came out in the bath and body works line instead, since it was such a hit last season! The fragrance from last year to this year has not changed at all. What has changed, however, is the products that are offered in the Twisted Peppermint line-up, and also the packaging. Bath and Body Works loves to change and improve their packaging quite frequently.
Don't be alarmed. The product inside the fancy new packaging is the same beloved product you crave long after the holidays end!

I too would love to see a creamy lemon scent, and a coffee scent! I have tried the chocolate mocha from 100% pure, but it just doesnt smell right. I'd like to see a "fresh brewed" type coffee scent paired with a sweet, creamy, vanilla. It should be invigorating yet comforting. I'd like to see a good strawberry scent as well. I feel that the Strawberry Lemonade in the Classics should be redone because that smells nothing like its namesake.

I would like to see a sweet cherry or strawberry scent in the fruit line. I also love lemon. And I agree that a lilac scent would be nice. I do think that these scents would have to be single scent products. Trying to mix too many fragrances together usually just turns into a train wreck. Also, no shimmer. My husband and boys can't stand it. I think 'shimmer shots' should be offered in the store for a small charge to anyone who does want shimmer. That would cut down on having to make one with/one without. And those of us who don't need or want the shimmer can shop easier.

What a fun question!

I always wonder what the next "newest thing" is going to be.

There are alot of great ROSE scents out there; maybe a VANILLA ROSE. Something with a BABY POWDER aroma could be nice. I'd also like to see a sweet & creamy LEMON scent. Something similar to the Bigelow lemon, but in the Signature line.

Just my ideas, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

They are both great!! If you lean to fruitier scents you would prefer Midnight Pomegranate. While it maintains all the characteristics of the fruity scents,it has a sultriness that doesn't exist with the others.

Black Amethyst is a dark, brooding scent that contains elements of floral, exotic, fruity, all while topped off with vanilla.

Well the Pomegranate is sweet where the Amethyst is musky. One smells like powdered kool aide or pixie sticks while the other is deep and rich. If you want a sexy smell then the Amethyst is a must, it remindes me of the Amber if you've ever used that scent. On the other hand I adore my Pomegrante, it's so fun, sweet and playful.
I always say stop in a store and let your nose guide you, if for some reason you can't do that it sounds like the Black Amethyst is what you're looking for.

Chances are, if you like Japanese Cherry Blossom, you'd probably like Black Amethyst over Midnight Pomegranate. I like both of them, but the Midnight Pomegranate smells like a deep, dark, rich fruit. It definitely allows its strong fruit notes to come out.
Black Amethyst, like Japanese Cherry Blossom, is strong, but it is also sophisticated, chic, and the two can be swapped interchangably for nights on the town, dates, or just having fun.
Between the two, I'd recommend Black Amethyst if you want the one closest to Japanese Cherry Blossom, but Midnight Pomegranate if a dark fruit scent doesn't bother you.

Between Midnight Pomegranate and Black Amethyst, I recommend Black Amethyst.
To me, MP smells too tart and sweet, somewhat artificial and when I bought the cream I couldn't stand to wear it. Black Amethyst is exotic and warm, a very unique scent. I feel sexy but not overwhelmingly strong when I wear it out. Another scent I find to be kind of feminine and sexy is Sensual Amber.

What's the difference between body washes and shower gels?
asked 8 months ago

AngelBlu

on Body & Bath
13 answers
Answers
answer 1
The shower gel and creamy body wash are typically the same in terms of what it basically is-which is a cleansing agent, however they differ in terms of how they cleanse and what they contain. For instance, with the shower gel it contains aloe vera and the texture is gel like and with the new formula created it has a longer lasting frangrance life which can also be extended by layering with moisturisers and frangrance mists and/or eau de toilllettes and it has the same frangrance as whatever fragrance line it follows(japanese cherry blossom or moonlight path etc.) Shower gels are lighter in feeling and most people use shower gels during warmer periods. Now, as for the creamy body wash it is bit more 'luxurious' and with a creamier texture it contains aloe vera as well as shea butter and is a bit heavier in feeling. Not only does the creamy body wash cleanse the skin but almost acts as an in-shower moisturiser as well. Creamy body washes are usually used by people that suffer from dry skin(like myself) or by those who want to have an extra layer of moisture during colder periods in the year. Both are wonderful to have and like i had said before , they still follow their fragrant families.

Both go a long way and last quite a while, but I would say that the Creamy Body Wash takes less to create a lot of lather, and it leaves skin very soft after a shower, so much so that you almost don't need to follow with body lotion or cream if your skin is not too dry. The Shower gel, IMO, takes more product to get accurate lather, and it is much more drying (it is CLEAR, so that makes since, actually). I recommend going with the Creamy Body wash whether you have really dry skin or not.

The body washes are for normal skin. They contain light moisturizers like aloe vera whereas, the creamy body washes are more nourishing. They contain oat, milk and silk proteins to help hydrate the skin. I prefer the texture and moisture in the creamy body washes over the shower gels because they feel more luxurious on my skin.

Since the reformulation of the Shower Gel which will be available in stores starting 11/3/08-there's not much difference. It is more a personal preference. Many feel the creamy body washes are less drying than the shower gels. I have used both and like them equally. I do like using the creamy body washes to shave with because they seem to stay on the skin better and longer. That's the only difference I see.

I find that the body washes give a better lather than the shower gels. With the shower gels, you feel cleaner, but it doesn't leave your skin feeling quite as soft. They both do the job well, but which is right for you really depends on your skin type is and what you're looking for.

answer 10
The term body wash is used to encompass anything that one uses to wash their body, regardless of type.
Bath and Body Works has two different types of body washes in their Signature Collection, excluding limited edition products such as the oil-to-cream shower gel.
The Shower Gel is typically the opaque liquid that comes in a bottle (not a tube). They recently reformulated them so they are more moisturizing to your skin. They continue Aloe Vera and Papaya Seed extract to help moisturize and seal in moisture. They lather up nicely and wash off very easily.
The Creamy Body Washes, however, come in tubes similar to the Body Cream. The Creamy Body Wash is essentially a much more luxurious, moisturizing shower gel. People with dry skin tend to prefer them over the shower gel, and they are fabulous in the winter time when people's skin is extra-dry. Hope this clarifies!

Velvet Tuberose. The packaging is gorgeous but the smell is awful. The red Aromatherapy, too. I think it's Jasmine Vanilla. Yuck.

My personal choices for this question:

Black Amethyst - too strong and incensy for me
Black Raspberry Vanilla - boring sweet
Blushing Cherry Blossom - don't like that citrus note, makes me sneeze and headachy
Brown Sugar and Fig - smells greasy and sickening to me
Cucumber Melon - smells like over-ripe melon
Pearberry - boring, nothing special
Sensual Amber - sickeningly heavy

Another vote for C.O. Bigelow Derma Remedy. It is simply amazing! It has Lactic Acid in the lotion. What that does is exfoliate the skin gently by promoting new skin cell growth. What happens to skin in the winter is that as it gets drier, the dead skin cells build up on the top of the skin, giving it that ashy, scaly, flaky look, and making it itchy. The Derma Remedy products "remedy" that through the lactic acid and the intense moisture it provides. Plus an added bonus is that it is Fragrance Free. So it is great for almost anyone, and MEN TOO! It is well worth the price and will cure your winter skin woes!

I have very dry skin all year round especially in the dryer seasons. I went into a store and the girl working had me try the True Blue Spa 60 second hands. It is an orange sugar scrub that washes away dry and dead skin. Then she had me put on Tru Blue Spas Shea Cashmere lotion. I didn't buy that day and the next morning I was in the store buying both products. My hands have never been so moisturized and pretty!!!

Also the Mega Butter in True Blue Spa is wonderful. I use that in combination with TBS In the Mood for Scrub which has shea butter beads. I find that exfoliating and moisturizing helps keep my legs smoother and less itchy.

Either the Derma Ready brand or the Lay it on Thick in the Spa collection. Derma ready kind of has a little bit of a fruity scent and the Lay It On has a shea butter/baby powder smell. I like the Lay it On best..I have had one tube for like a year!

C.O. Bigelow Derma Remedy Body Lotion, Body Wash or the Medicated Lotion.

It has the most potent moisturizers you can get over the counter. Great for minor skin rash or irritations due to weather or chemical imbalance.

Oh, Derma Remedy all the way! I have the same problem, and I scratch legs raw. Thd Derma Remedy Lotion works wonders. According to the description here, the lotion increases moisture by 75%. Now I can't say I've used it long enough to actually verify such a nice number, but I imagine with extended use, I will notice the improvement. For the more hardcore, I would suggest the Derma Remedy Medicated Treatment. I 've never used it, but it sounds pretty intense.

Also try searching the website for "Winter Survival Kit". It has Chapped Hands Remedy, Chapped Hands Cleanser, and the Derma Remedy Lotion, plus some sort of SPF 15 lip product. I'm thinking about getting that myself.

TBS is an amazing line of moisturizes. Practically everything has shea butter in it. Lay it on Thick is good for the entire body, while I especially love Look Ma New Hands for my hands.

My boyfriend also has really damaged hands from his job, and especially now when winters upon us. he's been using the Intensive Dry Care Therapy Line (I believe that's what it is called) from CO Bigelow. Its a tad pricey, but the hand cream has done wonders for his hands. And it also comes in a body cream, shower cream... and some other forms as well.

The end-all, be-all in my opinion is the C.O. Bigelow Shaving Cream in the emerald green box (usually kept in the C.O. Bigelow / Men's Barber collection).

It is imported from Italy and is used by Italian barbers. It's a really thick cream, that lathers extremely well. It also contains eucalyptus oil, and that cools your skin.

I fight razor burn, and have for years, and to be honest, this is the only shaving cream that I've used that even remotely comes close to helping. It is wonderful.

None of us can answer which of the four Barber Collection fragrances is best for your boyfriend, so go smell them for yourself and decide which is most like him. The blue is a really good seller, and tends to be a lighter, younger fragrance. It's cool and refreshing. The green is a more clean, natural, light fragrance. The red has a bit of a darker tone to it, as it's slightly spicier than the blue and green. The black is the darkest and the most adult and sophisticated for men.

My hubby loves the body splashes and washes. They don't cost as much as the expensive designer colognes and shower gels out there but smell just as nice. The Glacier Bay is a clean and fresh scent. Woodland and the Mountain Frost are also good. Try them and see which one seems most like your BF.

Shea Cashmere Body Lotion....that is my favorite and the moisture lasts on my skin all day. It has shea butter in it but not as heavy as the Lay It On Thick or some of the other shea products in True Blue Spa. Also, Grin and Bare It is not as greasy feeling as Lay It On Thick.

after you shave ,you should always put some sort of moisterizer on. the best thing to put on after shaving would be a hand and body cream or any body butter. they are both thicker than just a body lotion, so therefore the will have more moister in them to keep your skin smooth and sily after you shave.

you should always shave while you have either a shower wash or gel lathered to help prevent shaving cuts. Afterwards, any body cream (creams are the best for the winter for they have more moisturizers and are thicker, allowing them to work longer) works just fine-- it merely depends on your fragrance or tollerance or like. To help ensure that moisture remains in your skin, apply the moisturizer when your skin is still slightly wet.

There are a couple of things I would recommend for you to do in this instance. The first would be to buy the Shave the Day shaving lotion in the True Blue Spa line. It is very thick and moisturizing, and will help you get a close shave without taking any excessive moisture out of your skin.
I would also highly recommend following the shaving process with a moisturizer low in fragrance, as it will be less irritating to your skin. The product I most recommend would be the Grin and Bare It in the True Blue Spa line as well. It contains aloe and orange extract to soothe inflamed skin, and also moisturize and protect it. It is less thick than the Lay It On Thick product, so it will not leave your skin greasy, and there is very little to no fragrance to it. Stay away from anything with more than subtle fragrance notes in it or, heaven forbid, alcohol.

I recommend using a body cream or body butter from the signature collection. Or use something from the True Blue Spa collection. Apply it right after you get out of the shower. Pat yourself dry and apply your body cream while still in the moist bathroom. This will lock in the moisture all day even in the dry winter.

I would say use body lotion instead of cream. The lotion does not leave that greasy feeling once it dries like the cream does, in my opinion. Perhaps body splash would help moisturize a bit as well.
